One of the most common questions I get asked is what kind of gear I bring to a wedding day. After all, it is a ‘one and done’ kind of day so having the right gear– and having backups to capture everything is crucial.
So today, I’m giving you a peek inside my camera bag! 👀 Whether you’re a curious bride or groom, a fellow photographer, or just love techy shit, here’s what I pack to capture every candid, curated moment of your big day.
The Gear I Bring to Every Wedding
I like to keep things efficient so I can stay focused on storytelling–not fumbling through gear or crafting extensive setups. I’m *not* the photographer that will setup tripods, strobe lights or umbrellas. I want to be able to move around quickly and be unobtrusive, yet still be fully prepared for whatever might come my way. Here’s what you’ll typically find in my bag:
My Cameras
- Sony A7IV – This is my main workhorse camera. It delivers beautiful color, sharpness, and speed. The autofocus is absolutely insane for fast moving wedding days.
- Two Sony A7III’s – One is for my second photographer Cesar when he comes with and I keep the other as a backup. You just never know.
- All of our cameras have dual card slots which is an absolute MUST for weddings. This means I can record to two memory cards at once, so in case one fails (which has never happened to me in over a decade) but there is always an instant backup.
My Favorite Lenses
- Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 – This is the portrait GOAT. It smooths and blurs all of your sins for real.
- Sony 35mm f/1.4 – Perfect for storytelling and capturing candid in-between moments.
- Sony 24–70mm – Versatile for everything from first looks to fast-moving reception moments.
- Sigma 70mm Macro – For all the ‘jewelry magazine’ quality ring shots, flat lays, and detailed close-ups.
Lighting
- Godox Speedlights – Essential for dark dance floors and tricky indoor lighting.
- MagMod Flash Diffuser – Gives the light a nice soft appearance on the skin without blowing out ambient light in the background.
- Yongnuo Video Lights – Adds just the right amount of glow during nighttime portraits or on the dance floor and we are able to change the color on them to add a little pop.
Extras
- A ridiculous amount of batteries – Seriously. I could power a small village!
- Random stuff like lens cloths, extra SD cards, pain meds, sunblock and safety pins. All of the gear above goes into my rolling cart which also doubles as a spot for you to put your bride bag or set down your bouquet!
But It’s Not Just About the Gear
Let’s be honest..gear is great, but it doesn’t make the photographer.
What does matter? Timing. Creativity. Knowing how to direct and pose without making things feel awkward. Having an eye for detail. And most importantly, making people feel comfortable and confident in front of my camera. My gear helps me enhance those things, not replace them.

Now if you’re wondering where all the big, heavy, cinematic stuff is… that’s with my videographer 😅. Maybe we will do a post on all his cool gear later!
He carries wayyyy more than I do (tripods, gimbals, mics, and more). My bag is strictly for photography and even then, it’s packed and ready to capture every special second of your day.
