This last minute surprise proposal was actually coordinated by John’s mom Annette who called me a few days prior to their visit to Orlando. She has originally planned to photograph the proposal herself when she realized she was probably going to be too emotional/nervous/excited to take on such an important task! Bless her heart. She really was so excited when we talked, gushing about how incredibly perfect John and Katherine were for each other. She explained that her family and his would be going on vacation together from New Jersey to Orlando for the holidays and that it would be the perfect opportunity for John to propose at the Grand Floridian Hotel where they had a dinner reservation that evening.
The plan was that I would act like a Disney photographer and pose the group for a family photo in front of the massive Christmas tree. Then John would take advantage of the golden opportunity to get down on one knee and ask Katherine to be his wife while I continued snapping away. Granted it may have been a teeny bit suspicious that I was not wearing the typical Disney uniform or name tag, but we totally pulled it off and she didn’t suspect a thing. Right as the live band started playing “wish upon on a star” in the hotel lobby he proposed and she said YES! The champagne was on deck and they were able to celebrate with all of their family who were eager to congratulate them.
We also took advantage of the beautifully decorated resort to capture a few officially engaged photos of the new fiances as well. It was such a joy to capture this sweet holiday proposal and I hope you enjoy a handful of my favorite photos below!
